This 2-ounce American Silver Eagle tribute round is crafted from 2 ounces of pure silver and takes its inspiration from the exquisite Palladium Eagle, first struck by the United States Mint in 2019.
Authorized by the American Eagle Palladium Bullion Coin Act of 2010 (Public Law 111-303) during the 111th U.S. Congress, the Palladium Eagle boasts iconic designs by renowned sculptor Adolph Weinman. Its obverse features Weinman’s celebrated Winged Liberty Head—famously recognized as the “Mercury Dime” minted from 1916 to 1945—depicting the Goddess of Liberty with a winged cap. The reverse draws from Weinman’s 1907 medal design for the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
Prior to production, the Mint conducted extensive market research to evaluate demand. Although initial studies were delayed due to a conflict of interest, the evaluation was reassigned to CPM Group in New York, whose findings suggested limited market viability for palladium coins.
Despite these reservations, the Palladium Eagle launched successfully. The bullion version, released on September 25, 2017, sold out on its first day, while the proof version—released on September 6, 2018 at $1,387.50—was quickly snapped up, with secondary market premiums rising to $600 above the Mint’s price. The reverse proof edition followed on September 12, 2019.
